Achievement in Music
The Achievement in Music (AIM) program for piano is an exciting and motivating program that helps develop students who understand music theory and perform musically. Over 2000 students in Illinois participate in this program annually.
Theory, repertoire and technique are essential components of AIM. There are twelve levels in the program with Level I subdivided into three parts.
Students generally prepare one level each year and demonstrate their competency at yearly exams. Theory exams include: sight-reading, transposition, harmonization, aural skills and writing. Performance exams include demonstration of technique skills and the performance of two to four pieces - depending on the level of the student.
AIM provides music teachers with guidelines and standards by which student achievement may be recognized and evaluated. Students are not in competition with other students, but are judged individually on their performance. Upon passing each level, students receive a certificate and pin from the Illinois State Music Teachers Association.
The Waubonsee Valley Music Teachers Association holds their exams at Waubonsee Community College.
